Despite coming with a smaller 2.4L inline 4-cylinder engine, the 2018 Hyundai Sonata is no slouch in the performance department. To compensate for its size, this powertrain has been enhanced with features like direct fuel injection and continuously variable valve timing to ensure power-flow is high and fuel consumption is low.
With this engine under its hood, the Sonata has no trouble generating as much as 185 horsepower and 178 lb-ft of torque. Nevertheless, it still maintains 36 MPG highway and 25 MPG city.1
The 2018 Sonata also comes with a 6-speed automatic transmission with SHIFTRONIC® and drive mode select. This gives drivers the option of choosing between speedier or more efficient drive modes when the mood strikes.
The 2018 Sonata Interior
If you were to hold the 2018 Hyundai Sonata up to other cars in its class, you’d notice right away that it is spacious in comparison. In total, occupants will have 106.1 cubic feet of space with a 16.3 cubic foot trunk on top of it all.
In addition to space, drivers will have plenty of entertainment features at their disposal as they settle into the premium cloth-trimmed cockpit. Namely, they’ll have a 7-inch touchscreen and 6-speaker audio system.
Features like a USB port, an auxiliary jack, and Bluetooth® leave you with plenty of means of connecting devices. However, the standard additions of Apple CarPlay™ and Android Auto™ allow for total mobile integration.
2018 Hyundai Sonata Safety Ratings
These days, when it comes to staying safe out on the road, technology is just as important in a vehicle as structural rigidity is. Fortunately, the 2018 Hyundai Sonata comes packed with both.
To help deflect and absorb collision forces as much as possible, the Sonata is built with dynamic front and rear crumple zones. An energy-absorbing steering column and advanced airbag system with occupant classification sensors has also been added.
Next, you’ll have a few more common technologies to help boost your handling. Vehicle Stability Management, Electronic Stability Control, and the Traction Control system all blend together to keep you on course.
Then, as a bonus, you’ll have a couple of more intuitive safety gadgets that utilize cameras and sensors to keep an eye on the road for you. Blind Spot Detection with Rear Cross-traffic Alert And Lane Change Assist are all standard in the 2018 Sonata safety package.
