Hyundai Sonata Warning Lights

Hyundai Sonata

There are certain safeguards in place in our vehicles to let us know when something isn’t functioning the way it is supposed to. For example, when the battery may be losing power, there is a battery dashboard warning light to give us a little head’s up as we’re driving in the Bloomington, Martinsville, or Ellettsville areas.

These warning lights are put in place to help us quickly deduce what may be happening with our vehicle that, perhaps, we can’t diagnose ourselves. While some of these warning lamps are indicative of an active system in the car, some are meant to convey that your Hyundai Sonata may need service. At Andy Mohr Hyundai, we can help.

Schedule Service

  • Seat Belt Warning Light - This icon will look like a person in the seat with their seatbelt fastened. If it is illuminated on your dashboard, it means someone isn’t properly buckled in. Many newer cars will use this light along with a tone to indicate that one of the passengers needs to buckle up.

  • Brake Light - This dashboard symbol will be the word “BRAKE,” and it is there to tell you that either your parking brake is still applied or that your brake fluid may be low. If it remains on your dashboard after checking the position of your parking brake, you may want to schedule service for your vehicle ASAP.

  • Engine Light - This light will look like a tiny car engine and is also called the malfunction indicator light, which usually indicates that there is some problem with the emissions system. There are many sensors in the emissions system that could cause this light to come on, so schedule an appointment for us to take a look.

  • Electronic Stability Control - If you see an image of a car with two swerving lines behind it, this either means your electronic stability control (ESC) system has been engaged or there is a malfunction. If the light comes on and only stays lit for a brief period, you can rest assured that the system was engaged to prevent wheel lockage in a slippery situation. However, if it remains on, it’s time to get your car into our service department.

  • Battery Light - As mentioned previously, this light will tell you that the battery may be losing power or is not performing in the way it is expected. It looks like a small rectangle with a plus and minus sign inside. As the battery is an integral part of your vehicle, it’s probably best to get it checked out soon.
