2018 Hyundai Santa Fe Sport Safety Ratings

Hyundai Santa Fe Sport

Whether you’re cruising along city avenues, traversing windy backroads, or hitting the highway for a stretch, safety is going to be a top concern.

The 2018 Hyundai Santa Fe Sport has managed to nab some pretty respectable safety ratings this year. Bloomington, Martinsville, and Ellettsville drivers can learn all about them by reading this review by the Andy Mohr Hyundai team.

What Are The Santa Fe Sport Safety Ratings?

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) and Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) are two of the country’s leading automotive safety authorities.

After rigorous crash testing, the NHTSA has awarded the 2018 Hyundai Santa Fe Sport a 5-Star Overall Safety Rating. The crossover has also earned a 2018 TOP SAFETY PICK+ from the IIHS.

These awards are earned in large part thanks to the rigid structure of the Santa Fe Sport. It has been built with front and rear crumple zones, as well as an energy-absorbing steering column.

When the force of an impact hits your vehicle, these strategically bolstered areas can either absorb the brunt of it or redistribute it away from the passenger cabin.

Standard Safety Features Hyundai Santa Fe Sport interior

There are a number of standard safety features in place inside the 2018 Santa Fe Sport. Three different features are used to improve the crossover’s handling:

• Electronic Stability Control

• Vehicle Stability Management

• Traction Control

When these three features are placed together, you have improved wheel-grip on unfavorable road surfaces, enhanced stability, and better cornering abilities.

For driving up and down inclines, you can utilize Downhill Brake Control and Hill Start Assist Control. The former curbs vehicle momentum when going downhill, and the latter prevents your car from rolling backwards when hitting the accelerator going up.

Lastly, you’ll have a standard rearview camera. This provides a view of what’s happening behind your vehicle, which can be very helpful when trying to park.

Available Safety Features Hyundai Santa Fe Sport safety

In addition to the standard array, you can add in these available smart features.

• Blind Spot Detection and Rear Cross-Traffic Alert

Need an extra view into those hard-to-spot areas along the side and rear of your Santa Fe Sport? These features provide a peek on your screen, so you know when it’s safe to change lanes.

• Smart Cruise Control

This feature measures your following distances when engaged. If the Santa Fe Sport senses the car in front of it slowing down, it will, as well.

• Automatic Emergency Braking with Pedestrian Detection

If someone were to walk out in front of your car without warning, these features can detect it. Then, it’ll hit the brakes to avoid colliding with them.

Multi-view Camera System

This camera differs from the rearview camera in that it provides more than just a view of what’s behind your car. It gives you an all-around look, so you can better assess how to park.

Of course, this crossover has a lot more than that. Bloomington, Martinsville, and Ellettsville drivers will see for themselves when they take one for a spin.

MPG estimates on this website are EPA estimates; your actual mileage may vary. For used vehicles, MPG estimates are EPA estimates for the vehicle when it was new. The EPA periodically modifies its MPG calculation methodology; all MPG estimates are based on the methodology in effect when the vehicles were new (please see the Fuel Economy portion of the EPA's website for details, including a MPG recalculation tool).

Fuel economy ratings and driving range figures are based on EPA estimates for new vehicles, and actual mileage and range may vary depending on factors such as driving conditions, vehicle maintenance, fuel quality, driving habits, and modifications. For used vehicles, the EPA estimates were generated when the vehicle was new, and actual fuel economy may differ more significantly due to factors like age, maintenance history, and vehicle condition. Therefore, EPA estimates should be used as a general guide for comparison purposes only and not as a guarantee of actual fuel economy or driving range, especially when considering used vehicles.
