2022 Hyundai Santa Cruz

When you're out on the roads of Bloomington, Martinsville, or Ellettsville, you want a vehicle that's going to be rugged, dependable, and get you where you want to go, even in the worst weather conditions. Hyundai is here to answer that call with their all-new Santa Cruz pickup truck.

In a field crowded with pickups, the Santa Cruz is being billed as an SAV, or Sport Adventure Vehicle.

The Santa Cruz is a compact pickup truck with a solid engine lineup and great technology. Andy Mohr Hyundai offers you this Hyundai Santa Cruz preview so you know what to expect when it hits showroom floors.

An Overview of the Hyundai Santa Cruz

The new Hyundai Santa Cruz is an intriguing new kind of vehicle. It is a compact pickup built on a crossover SUV frame, dubbed a Sport Adventure Vehicle, or SAV, by the manufacturer. It offers a comfortable, car-like ride, which still maintains solid capabilities in terms of off-roading, hauling, and towing capacity. In many ways, it's not competing with either SUVs or pickups but is establishing a whole new class of vehicle.

Engine Lineup

2022 Hyundai Santa Cruz PerformanceThe new Santa Cruz is set to be driven by one of two engines. At the base level, you get a 2.5-liter inline-four that's naturally aspirated and gives you 190 horsepower backed up with 180 lb-ft of torque mated to an eight-speed automatic transmission. Next up, as you upgrade to higher trim levels, is an available inline-four turbo engine at 2.5 liters that gives you 275 horsepower with 310 lb-ft of torque, mated to an eight-speed dual-clutch automatic.

You'll be able to choose front-wheel drive or all-wheel drive on either engine. The dual-clutch transmission really sets this one apart, as it's usually only seen on sports or muscle cars. That tends to indicate a sporty ride in the new Santa Cruz when combined with the powerful engine.

Sport Adventure Capacity

The new Santa Cruz isn't looking to compete with midsize pickups, but it still boasts a solid towing and hauling capacity with additional outdoor adventuring technology. Its maximum towing, depending on how it's outfitted, ranges between 3,500 pounds and 5,000 pounds.

Maximum payload in the 4-foot bed is about 660 pounds, enough for some furniture or heavy luggage, sports gear, or light equipment. It comes with a step-up back bumper, in-bed tie-downs, and a composite bed cover for extra utility, and you'll be able to choose available options like a roll-up tonneau bed cover, roof basket, and household-style power outlet in the bed.
