Hyundai Elantra vs Honda Civic

Hyundai Elantra

When drivers throughout Bloomington, Martinsville, and Ellettsville, IN, seek a reliable compact sedan, they often look for a good performance and plenty of advanced features. Two popular options are the Elantra and the Civic. But which one would best satisfy your driving needs?

To help answer that question, our team at Andy Mohr Hyundai created this Hyundai Elantra vs. Honda Civic vehicle comparison. We’ll go over the similarities and differences between each car, so you can make an informed decision. Read about them below and contact us if you have any questions.

Performance Specs: Go the Distance

Go the Distance

The Hyundai Elantra comes standard with a 2.0L inline 4-cylinder engine that delivers 147 horsepower and 132 lb-ft of torque. If you’re looking to invigorate your morning commute with more oomph, opt for the available 1.6L Turbo GDI 4-cylinder engine delivering 201 horsepower and 195 lb-ft of torque.

The Honda Civic also has two engine options, but you’ll notice a difference in performance. Its most powerful option, an available 1.5L turbocharged 4-cylinder, delivers only 174 horsepower and 162 lb-ft of torque.

Cutting-Edge Technologies

Technologies

The Elantra and Civic offer plenty of high-tech features to help you stay connected and entertained. For example, they both allow you to connect your compatible smartphone to the vehicle through Apple CarPlay® and Android Auto™ integration. These systems allow you to access your music playlists, text messages, navigation, and more.

The biggest difference between the Elantra and Civic is that the Hyundai comes standard with wireless integration. Meanwhile, the Honda doesn’t offer wireless integration and even wired connectivity is only an available feature.

The Hyundai Elantra also features an infotainment system with either a standard 8-inch or an available 10.25-inch high-resolution touchscreen. You may have a harder time viewing the infotainment system in the Civic since its standard 5-inch and available 7-inch displays are smaller.

Is the Hyundai Elantra or Honda Civic Safer?

Which is safer

The Hyundai Elantra and Honda Civic offer plenty of safety features to help keep everyone protected in a potential accident. They both come with advanced airbag systems that include advanced front and side curtain airbags; however, the goal is always to avoid a collision.

That’s why these sedans offer driver-assistive technologies. Some of the shared standard systems include:

  • Forward Collision-Avoidance Assist with Pedestrian Detection
  • Lane Keeping Assist
  • Lane Following Assist

The Elantra goes one step further with Safe Exit Warning coming standard as well. This feature can alert you and your passengers to approaching vehicles when parked, so everyone knows when it’s safe to leave your car. It can even lock the doors if it detects an approaching vehicle. The Civic doesn’t offer a similar system.

Hyundai Elantra vs Honda Civic: The Verdict

The Honda Civic is an impressive compact car. However, the Hyundai Elantra has a more powerful performance, more available features, and better safety systems. But to help decide if it’s right for you, you’ll need to check it out in person.
