Why You Need an Oil Change
Oil is used to keep an engine cool and properly lubricated. As the internal parts of an engine move, they rub together, which causes friction. And the more friction there is, the hotter the engine gets. If it gets to be too hot, then it won’t work properly, which could be very dangerous for your vehicle. So, not only does oil keep the engine cool, but it also extends the lifespan of your vehicle.
Clean oil is amber or honey brown in color. As the oil does its job, it’ll eventually become gritty with dirt and debris, and turn dark brown or black in color. When this happens, the oil will no longer lubricate the engine, causing it to break down.
There are other signs of needing an oil change, including:
• Check engine light appearing
• Smelling a burnt oil odor
• Hearing a knocking or banging noise from the engine
