Transmission FAQ Hyundai service tech

  • Why Is a Transmission Inspection Important?

Most transmission problems start with the amount or the quality of the transmission fluid. During a transmission inspection, the levels, texture, and color of your transmission fluid will be thoroughly checked to ensure that it’s in adequate condition to run your car properly.

  • How Do I Check My Car's Transmission?

When it comes to your transmission fluid, it should be checked once a year for both the level and color. Use a dipstick to check the level of the fluid inside your transmission and if it is low, it should be seen by a technician. Additionally, when you use a clean cloth to wipe the dipstick off, check the color of your fluid. If you notice anything other than a pink color, it’s time for someone to see it.
  • How Often Should I Service My Transmission?

Although most manufacturer’s guidelines say you should flush your transmission every hundred thousand miles, but our service technicians say it should actually happen more often. Many technicians recommend replacing your transmission fluid every 30,000-50,000 miles.
  • Should I Repair or Replace My Transmission?

The answer to this question depends on the severity of the problem. While the replacement of your transmission can be costly, many service professionals recommend that you opt for this choice. Sometimes the repairs can be just as pricey as the replacement and you’ll have the surety of a warranty.
  • Why Is My Transmission Slipping?

You’ll feel your transmission beginning to slip as it struggles to grab the right gear, or it takes a longer period of time to slip into the right one. The most common cause of this problem is your transmission fluid level. When this level is allowed to get too low, it can overheat and cause the gears to slip.
  • Why Is My Transmission Fluid Brown?

If your level is ideal but the color is off in your transmission, then this is indicative of a problem. Part of the problem could be the age of the fluid and the color is simply telling you that it requires replacement. However, if the fluid smells burnt, it means that there is excessive friction happening and requires service.
